THomas Bourke 1845-50

This is my great grandfather who I am researching. I have found his Army record together with his marraige and death certificates.  All records show that he was born in Michelstown during the period 1845/50 (confliting dates on all records). His mother was Mary Finnicane his father Edward Bourke( stationed at Fermoy with the army). I know that by 1856 he had emigrated to Plymouth Devon.

I cannot find any baptism or birth record and would like to know the local Roman Catholic and/or Church of Ireland for that area in order for me to contact the vicar/father of the church where he might have been baptised.

Thank you

  • Maureen, i am looking at unanswered queries, records for RC in Mitchelstown are online and nothing comes up in the search, records for C of I are held locally, here is a list of parishes from the Church Representative body https://www.ireland.anglican.org/about/rcb-library/list-of-parish-regis…

The mothers name to me appears it should be Finnucane or and was written as heard at some official point. There is a possible marriage in 1850 in Limerick, an Edward Bourke married a Mary Finnucane at St Michaels parish Limerick on the 12th April 1850, there is a Thomas Burke born in Kingstown (now Dun Laoighre ) is sor Dunlaoireouth Dublin, she is recorded as Mary Bourke, witnesses were Randolph Miley and Eliza Wood, baptism was 14th February 1851, this would be consistent with a military connection.

There is a UK site that is subscription but fairly reasonable that has these records I think, Forces War Records. https://uk.forceswarrecords.com/

    Good Luck
