My 3x great grandfather, Samuel Stinson was from the border area Cavan/Monaghan. In an 1814 assessment of Protestant Children in 1814, he is living in Lattacoppel, Drung Parish (Cavan) with his father Thomas, brothers William, John and Copelin. Mother may have been Eliza. Also in Lattacoppel is William Stinson, with son Samuel, and daughters Mary and Isabella. I believe there's probably a connection between Thomas and William but I don't know what.
Samuel's eldest daughter Ellen was baptized in Drung with the note farmer (or former) of Magheratemple. Samuel's wife was Anne, perhaps Potts or Points. Besides Ellen, there was Eliza (about 1832), Thomas (1836), and Margaret born in Ireland. Samuel and family emigrated to St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada around 1840. His parents and brothers a few years earlier.
Another Thomas Stinson came to Canada from Drum and settled in Hamilton. I do not know if there is a connection or not. I see both Drum and Scotstown are closer than Drung to Lattacoppel.
I'm looking for any Stinson references from the period 1800-1840. Thanks
LJ Stinson

Hi, I believe the townland is Lattacapple.
There were 12 Stinsons in Cavan in the tithe applotment books in the 1820s: http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…Patricia

I've taken a look at Stinson entries in the tithe applotment book mentioned above and find them confusing. Of the 9 Thomas Stinsons listed, the 4 for Cullis/Cullies all show the same image, so I'm assuming it's all the same person. Similarly, the Drumboy, Drumbo, Drumbow listings are the same image, only the Drumboe image is different. And there's nothing for Thomas Stinson or Thos. Stinson under Latt, but it is shown on the same page as the Drumbo etc. image. So is it safe to assume there are 3 Thomas Stinsons living in Annagelliff Parish in 1826, one in Drumboe, one in Drumbo/Drumboy/Drumbow, and one in Cullis/Cullies?
I can only find Cullies on a map anywhere near Annagelliff.
