I remember when Ireland Reaching Out was new, and I was very excited and hugely impressed with the pure brilliance of the idea behind it!  Now I have enough information that I think I can reasonably ask for help.

I'm looking for information for BRIDGET MARTIN AND JAMES WARD of Donaghmoyne (townland unknown).  Here is what I have so far.

Great-great granparents JAMES WARD 1816 - 1870 and BRIDGET MARTIN 1822-1880, married 1845 Donaghmoyne, Co Monaghan. Citation: rootsireland.ie Neither of their parents names are indicated. I know they were Roman Catholic. Their children were:

  • Anne Ward   Born Donaghmoyne Citation: rootsireland.ie

  • 1852 – 1911

The family moved to Kingston, Ontario, between 1853 and 1855.  The couple had four more children in Kingston. James and Bridget are buried there.

Mary Anne Ward married John Joseph Farrell (Crowley) in Kingston, Ontario, in 1872.

I will be going to Co Monaghan about May 5, 2015, and would love to be able to research while there. Any little scraps of information or hints to go on would be immensely welcomed!

I looked at the 1861 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Donaghmoyne to see if there were any townlands where the Wards and Martins lived but there were so many entries for both names that you can't tell where they may have lived.

I also looked at Roots and found the Anne record as you did. I did find a Thomas in 1846 with parents James and Bridget. I did not see a record for Owen or Edward. You have Edward born in 1843 but the couple did not marry until 1845.

By the way I did find a Patrick born in 1851 to James and Bridget but possibly he was from a different family since I found other children born after your ancestors left Ireland. Looks like there was another James and Bridget Ward family in the parish.

    Enjoy your trip to Ireland!
