My g-g-grandfather, Owen Fee (born in 1802 or 1804) came from Co. Monaghan to Rochester, NY in 1835. I believe he may have lived in Drumaconvern. I believe that his father's name may have been James (with a Carrickavoley connection). I guess the parish is Donaghmoyne. Is there any record of a James Fee being buried in that vicinity? James' birthdate is unknown but if his son was born around 1802, James would have to be at least around 20or so  by then. Are there any records for an Owen Fee for a Catholic baptism around 1802-1804? Mary Fee Spacher

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I did locate an 1823 Tithe record for a James Fee in Carrickavoley which is a 101 acres townland in Donaghmoyne parish. See below. The 1861 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows about seven Fee records no James and none in Carrickavoley. There is a Hugh Fee in Drumaconvern. Likely a relative of Owen's. See below. The bad news is that the RC records for Donaghmoyne do not begin until 1863 which explains why I was not able to find a baptismal record for Owen.

There were no Fees in Drumaconvern in the 1901 census.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Thank you Roger. I have completed a DNA test through Ancestry.com. So far no one has come forward to "claim" me and I haven't found anyone who seems to fit into Owen Fee's family. Do you think if I ever get to visit Ireland that I'd be able to find the gravestone of James Fee? Thank you for your time on this. Mary

Finding a grave stone for someone who died prior to 1850 is unlikely but don't let that stop you from visiting Ireland and Donaghmoyne parish.
