Looking to any information on the family of George McEnroe and Ann Lamb whose children included Mary, born circa 1842 and James born circa 1838. Mary and James were baptised at Magheracloone and later emigrated to New Zealand.

You may want to check www.monaghan.nationalarchives.ie  They have an 1838 baptism of a James McEnroe father George in Magheracloone RC church. I did not check for Mary or a marriage record. This is a pay site but they have a 40% off special until 10/13.

By the way, I checked the 1861 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Magheracloone civil parish. No McEnroe records but five McEnrue records. No George so possibly he was deceased, emigrated or did not lease land. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/monaghan/magheracloone.htm

  • Hi Roger

Thanks for your suggestions.  I joined this site after I found the baptisms on Roots Ireland and  more or less confirmed the place of origin after many years of trying!

My lot turned up in New Zealand in the 1870's and I agree with you that their father George was probably dead by the time of the 1861 Griffiths.

I had a researcher check the records for Magheracloone but he found nothing and said they were very hard to read on microfilm.  I will keep checking as more becomes available.

    Regards

    Lynne
