I'm searching for any information relating to my ancestors who lived on the Shirley Estate in the early 1800s. The head of the family was Thady (Thaddeus) Gallogly (c. 1776-1856). He was married to Catherine Garvey (1781-1868). They had at least 7 children: Patrick (1805-1875), Thomas (1807-1889), Michael (1810-1895), Mary (1813-1879), Peter (1815-1860), Elizabeth (1824-1869), and Catherine (1830-1888). Patrick emigrated to Canada c. 1828. Thomas and Michael followed c. 1830. The rest of the family emigrated c. 1833. They settled first in Etobicoke, York Co., Ontario before moving to Mayfield, Chinguacousy, Peel Co., Ontario. According to the Tithe Applotment Book, there were other Galloglys in Lisdrumturk: John and James. Also, there were other Garvey families in Lisdrumturk: Catherine and Miles. Any information relating to any of the above people would be greatly appreciated. I will be visiting Carrickmacross in May. Cheers...

Hi,
If you haven't already seen the Griffith's Valuation records dated 1861, there is a Thomas Goligly and a Patrick Garvey - both tenants of Evelyn P. Shirley in Lisdrumturk.
Additionally, in the 1901 census, there is a record for John Gollogly (70 years old) and family in Lisdrumturk.
Regards,
Carolyn

Thank you, Carolyn, for your reply and research. I was aware of the Griffith's Valuation records, but not the 1901 census. I'm sure that all of those people must be connected to my ancestors somehow. I wish I could find descendants of these people, but it has been very difficult. I have found people with the same surname who had ancestors in the Lisdrumturk area, but we can't establish a definitive connection, mostly owing to a lack of records. The search continues... Best wishes to you and thanks again. Cheers,
Matthew
