I'm looking for information about a Thomas Cannon. Was married 14 June 1806 at Banagher Kings Country Ireland to Matilda Graham.
Had at least 1 son William Cannon born 1816 Kings Country.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
After any and all information. Family crest, date of birth, father etc.
Thanks in advance

Helo Nick, I have just found this site and saw your message. I am descended from Patrick Cannon who I believe is your Thomas Cannons brother. I have a DNA match on Ancestry to a descendant of Thomas & Margaret's son William Cannon, known in Australia as William Cunnane/Cannon the elder, who settled in Victoria and who was transported to Australia in 1835 with his cousin William Cunnane/Cannon who is my Great Great Grandfather.
Both William's were convicted as White Boys, in Tipperary for Firearms & sentenced to Life. They arrived on the ship Backwell on 29th September 1835 which left Cork on 12th June 1835. Native place is Kings County (County Offlay). My William's Occupation was a Farm Servant. Age 22 years.
My William received his 'Conditional Pardon' on 21st September 1850. William the Elder received his 'Conditional Pardon' on 9th December 1848.
If you would like any further information, please feel free to contact me, Vicki

vickimaria - I am a distant relation to Thomas Cannon, do you have any information on Patrick and Thomas Cannons parents in Ireland. Am I also correct fro above that the Senior William is the son of Thomas and Mararet.
Also was the Cunnane name only used by the Williams that got deported to Australia?

Hi Nick, nice to hear from you, unfortunately I don't have any info on who Patrick & Thomas's parents were & my DNA matches don't seem to have anything either as I don't belive the records are there. But yes you are correct in that the elder William Cannon was a son of Thomas Cannon & Margaret "Matilda" Grahan.
I think the Cunnane name was only used by the 2 Williams that come to Australia. It could have been that the English person writing out all the documents could not understand the Irish accent. However I did find another use of the Cunnane name on the Irish Convicts site (I'll put the link below) for a James of native of Sligo, John native of Mayo & a Michael & Patrick both natives of Roscommon. I'm not sure if Cunnane is a name in Ireland or not, but on later documention the name seems to have changed to Cannon for the 2 Williams. On my Willian's parents marriage in 1809 the name is noted as Cannon.
I also have a couple of DNA matches to distant cousins that have the Cunnane name from Mayo in their tree, but don't know how we are linked, also Ancestry says they are from my Mother's side which is correct.
Well, not sure if I have been of any help, but I hope so. If you need anything else please let me know
Cheers for now
Vicki
