I am trying to find any information relating to the family of my Gt Grandfather James Carroll. I have a later dated 1915 from my Gt Grandparents to my grandmother Mary Chester ( Carroll ) saying they were in Dromoyle . James would have been 86/87 born circa 1828 . I know my grandmother had 2 sisters and I believe a brother Patrick??. All three sisters went to England and 1 later to America. It would be nice to know if I still have some connection to the area.
Regard Tony Chester

I wonder if this is your family in 1901:

And in 1911:

You’ll see that James was an army pensioner so you may get more information on him from his military records in NAS in Kew, London. He and Mary had 4 children all of whom were alive in 1911.

Hi Tony
I am the Parish Liaison for Kilcolman, Co Offaly and apologies for not replying sooner. I have only just seen your message due to technicalities.
I have found some birth records for Carrolls in the Kilcolman register that may be your family but I would need some more information from you to check that I am on the right track. Carroll is a very prominent name in this Parish which makes it a little bit more difficult! In fact my own mother was a Carroll so I will be able to rule out some of them straight away. Was your great grandmother called Mary Newson? As I have a record of a Patrick born to her and James plus 2 sisters, one of them may be your grandmother. So if you would find it easier to email you can do so to the parish email address kilcolmanoffaly@irelandxo.com. I would also love if you could scan a copy of the letter sent by your great grandparents to your Grandmother as I may recognise more local information from it and connections. If it is personal no problem.
Looking forward to being of help.
