I am looking for Elizabeth Walker b:1851 according to her marriage certificate (m:12 Jan 1874 to Theodor Oscar Pedersen in Gloucester, UK) her father is Henry Walker and mother Mary Walker (b:1818 Dublin, Kings County formerly a Laundress) Elizabeth also has a brother Jono b: 1853. We would really love to find my husbands Irish roots and visit one day.

  • Hi Kim,

I went to rootsireland.ie  and put in the name elizabeth walker 1851 but I couldn't find her at all.  I then brodened the years search and I found an Elizabeth co. Antrim.  I then put in Henry and Mary's names and got the same record.  This can be found in the parish of Eglington Presbyterian in Derry.  The date shown is 1862.

It's very rare to find a record that has all the correct parties involved.  I would believe that this is your ancestor.

People didn't know what age they were when they emigrated.  Nobody celebrated birthdays or had birth certificates and when pressed on arrival for age they usually just guessed.

I have tried to find Jono but to no avail.

You'll have trouble looking for Mary as you dont have her maiden name.  However she was either born in Dublin (parish records are at irishgenealogy.ie) or KIngs County which is Co Offaly (parish records are on rootsireland.ie)

I have had people send me dates that were on headstones in America and found that their dates were incorrect.  These people were able to verify records found here.

Hope this is of some use to you.

Good luck in your search and keep an open mind.

    Anne
