I finally got a match with a James William Cahalan, who emigrated from IRE

James William Cahalan 1810 who lived in Castelrea, Roscomon  is a distant cousin, according to the DNA match.

my James Cahalens (sic) came beforer 1761, where he was married in Salem, N.J. under the King's Bond.

So, since the 1810 James has the same DNA as the earlier James, I'd like to find the link in IRE.

Griffens Valuation has a few, and some with different spellings, but I'd love to get closer. (Not just in Roscommon- Cork and others)

If anyone can give me some clues, I'd be appreciated!

Thank You,

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Is your DNA match information based on a Y-DNA test or an autosomal test. Did your match regarding the 1810 James Cahalan provide any more info? Is 1810 his year of birth? Castlerea is a good distance from Ardcarn parish and today (as this Wikipedia article explains) is the second largest town in Roscommon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlerea    Neither the Tithe listings or Griffiths listings for Kilkeevin parish show any Cahalan names but there are two Callaghans listed in the 1855 Griffiths and one of the two was a James on Main St. in Castlerea.

The RC baptismal records for Kilkeevin/Castlerea parish start in 1804 and go through May 1809. Then there is a gap from 1809 until 1816.

I did find this 1805 baptismal record transcription on Roots Island

    Date of Baptism:12-Nov-1805Address:Not RecordedParish/District:CASTLEREAGender:MaleCountyCo. Roscommon
