Hi. My great grandmother Agnes Hanley confirmed on the 1921 UK census that she was born in 1863 at Ballinlough Roscommon to parents Pat Hanley and Mary Ann Connor. We originally thought she came from Ballyleague which is where her two brothers Frank and William appear to have been born in 1850 and 1866 respectively. There were two sisters that we know of - Elizabeth born circa 1855 and Annie Marie born circa 1867. Pat and Mary Ann are a somewhat elusive couple! We have no confirmation on where they came from or where they were married. The family were Catholic however.
Given Agnes has now given Ballinlough as her place of birth I wondered if there would be any relevant record/s in this new location on either her or her family please. Agnes, William and Annie Marie went to Providence where they all married. Agnes then came to the UK with my great grandfather Thomas William Martin where she stayed until her death in 1935. William and Annie Marie both remained in Providence until their deaths. Elizabeth met and married her husband in Boston, Massachusetts where they remained until their deaths.
I would be very grateful for any help local knowledge can advise on. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer and also for taking the time to consider this request.

I don't think Agnes was from Ballinlough but Ballyleague. I think the problem is that the RC church for the area (Cloontuskert/Kilgefin) does not have records until 1865. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0540 Civil registration of births started in 1864 which means that anyone baptized in Cloontuskert/Kilgefin church prior to 1864 will not have a church or civil record available.

Immigrants would always use the nearest big town as their place of origin which explains using Ballyleague. There was a Patrick Hanley in Lisnanarriagh townland in Cloontuskert civil parish in the 1855 Griffiths head of household listing for Cloontuskert civil parish.

Likely your Patrick was one of the two I've listed.

Just want to offer a caveat. Just because this date is on a census record does not make it accurate. Agnes herself may not have provided the info. The person writing it down may have erred. Etc. Or Agnes may not have been aware of her exact birth year--common at the time--or may have lied about her age. May I suggest backing up the census with some other records?
