My gr gr grandparents were Patrick and Bridget (Coniry) Brown from Cloughoola, Marble Hills, County Galway. On the 1901 Census, their parish is given as Ballynakill in the Barony of Leitrim. They lived in a house owned by Mary McCormack.  I have found a total of nine children, most of which, including my gr grandfather, emigrated to America. (Lowell, Massachusetts and surrounding towns). One of the children that remained in Ireland was Catherine Brown. She married Michael Holleran in 1897 and they lived in Lagoo, which is near to Marble Hills. On the censuses, the reported Holleran children were John, Thomas, Bridget, Kate and Mary. I just returned from a trip to Ireland with my family, our fifth trip. This is the first visit where I had traced nearly all of my Irish ancestors and those of my husbands and we were able to visit the locations they were from but did not have the opportunity to speak with anyone who may have known of the families.  If any of the above is known to anyone here, I would appreciate anything you can share.

  • Thank you for the post. These locations seem a little farther away from Lagoo for my Holleran connections, but they are earlier generations to what I know of the Hollerans, so could be related. Hard to trace the Hollerans back that far.  I thought I had found all of my gr Aunts and Uncles but I recently requested a death certificate for my gr grandfather, Patrick Brown,  and found his death was reported by his son-in-law, Michael Holleran. Only then did I find my missing gr Aunt Catherine and her birth and marriage record to Michael Holleran. So I haven't had much time to research the Holleran connection. I appreciate your contribution.
