Dillon of Ballaghaderreen area

Joann: There is a Patrick Dillon listed in the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing. He was living in Bohalas townland. Bohalas is about 2-3 miles west of Ballaghaderreen on the N5 road headed to Charlestown. Did James have siblings born 1864 or later and there possibly would be a civil birth record. Another option is to review the Ballaghaderren church records which are on microfilm and maintained by the Mormon Church. Not all years are covered but I have found baptisms in the mid 1850s. I have the film at the Family History Center, here in Santa Fe. I have all the siblings (1854-1873), except two, probably born between 1861 and 1864, the missing years of Ballaghaderreen church records. I am trying to go a generation back to find out about Patrick Dillon and Mary Callaghan. I did get some civil records last September, in Dublin, for the younger siblings.

JoAnn: I had a couple sisters to my great-grandfather who were in that 1861-1864 gap. Maybe you can find the marriage record for Patrick and Mary in the Ballaghaderreen (I found my great-great grandparents marriage in 1837)although she could have been from another church either the Carracastle church or over in Tibohine/Frenchpark parish in Roscommon.Loughglynn is another possibility. Thanks for the tips. I do have the film of the church records for Loughglynn, but it is very, very difficult to read. I will take a closer look, and try Carracastle.

I have an Adam/Aaron, James and Eliza Dillon, they were living in London c 1800 and were transported as convicts to Australia. I have had no luck in tracing UK records and think they may possibly be Irish.

Any help appreciated!
