Good Day!

My name is Matt McCormick.  My great-great granmother was Ann Hanly.  Anne baptized two daughters in Elphin; Mary Anne McCormick (April 1857; sponsors Timothy and Bridget hanly) and Catherine McCormick (July 1850; Ann hanly and Patrick Fitzgibbons sponsors).  The father is listed as Bernard McCormick.

My grandfather John McCormick was said to have been their step-brother.

Ann and the two girls left for the USA arriving in New Orleans in March of 1859.  They then went to St. Louis, Missouri.  John came to St. Louis several years later.  A newspaper article (in which he reffernced his "step sisters") said that he had left behind staying with a grandmother.

There is some evidence his father may have been named Thomas.  John McCormick was born about 1849.

Any suggestions on how I might investigate the McCormick's and Hanly's of the Parish would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello again!

I found the 1857 baptismal record but the 1850 record was for Teresa rather than Catherine. I was not able to find a John around 1849. You may want to review the register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0556  for Elphin RC parish.

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Elphin civil parish lists McCormacks but no Bernard.
