Hello Everyone, I have been researching my ancestors in Elphin/Kilmacumsy - My Great Grandfather was John Beirne (born 1840) and he was married to Honoria Devine (born 1839), He was a farmer and he had three brothers (Timothy, Thomas and Patrick) Their father was Michael Beirne (born 1793) and mother Brigit Higgins (birth date unknown), My Grandfather (Francis Beirne born 1879) was born in Elphin/Kilmacumsy and came to the UK around 1910ish.

I will be meeting my cousin from Canada in Roscommon and we are hoping to find and meet relatives from Elphin/Kilmacumsy who can help us to find places our ancestors lived. - assuming there are some decendants  of course.

Cheers Mike

I did not know if you had the 1911 census record for your family. They lived in the townland of Kilmacumsy in the civil parish of Kilmacumsy.

This may be the death record for your great-grandfather John Beirne. The only caution is that he was 72 in 1911 yet when he died in 1921, he was shown as 68. The informant was a niece, Bridget Flanagan.

  • Hello Roger,

Thanks for your reply and information.

Yes, I had seen and satisfied myself the census in 1911 details are correct as it also ties in with my Great Grandfather John;s siblings.

I had also found the death record you linked to and I am about 90% happy it is my Great Grandfather John (I only use the ages as a general guide) I cannot place, at this time the Neice Bridget Flanagan.

It is great to get your response it gives me a "warm" feeling I am on the right track. I should be visiting in early June this year.

Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers Mike
