  • Hi Stephen

There is a record of the baptism of Mary Gill in Mayo 1889 - parish is KILCOLMAN RC on www.rootsireland.ie/

There is a charge to view the full record which MAY have the parents' names

I want to make sure you have the correct Kilcolman parish. The Kilcolman parish in Costello barony is actually in Co. Roscommon and has been since 1898. ( We will need to adjust the web site).

The Kilcolman parish in Clanmorris barony is in Mayo. I located a 1901 census record for a 11 year old Mary Gill in that parish. She was living with her grandparents. Any connections?

  • Roger, my sincerest thanks for your post. Documents I have on my grandmother (Mary A. Gill) are she was born in 1882, died in 1960 in Massachusetts USA. Earlier searches did turn up a Mary Gill in the parish and barony you suggest, listing father as Martin Gill and mother as Catherine Carroll - but I am not 100% sure this is the same person.

I will keep searching!  In fact my wife and I are visiting Ireland - leaving Oct. 7 and returing Oct. 16 and I hope to continue my research during the tours.

    Again, I appreciate your help!
