Would like to know if this parish has birth records between 1820 and 1825.  Looking to find the birth record of my grt grt grandfather William Thornton who was born in this Parish (per his military records), approximately June 16 or 17, 1821 thru 1824.  His father's name was John Thornton and his mothers name may have been Mary.  Moved to Manchester, England by February 1841 and moved back to Dublin in Dec of 1841 to join the Army.  Would love his actual birthdate and mom's name.  Contact me at raunera@aol.com

  • Hello  Asking for a friend- have been researching his maternal grandmother's family, from Ardakillin, Killukin (Roscommon district I believe??). Name of McCormack, father John- poss. Joseph middle name-, mother Margaret Farrell. Found their census info from 01 and 11, but only see civil registrations for any possible marriages involving the children, so haven't found any married names if indeed they remained in Ireland.  Margaret emigrated and married in the States, I believe. Wasn't sure if there were any remaining family in Ireland. Other children included Ellie, John Jospeh, Nannie, Katie, Sarah ( believe Sarah Matilda), Lizzie Jane and Norah. Found POSSIBLE marriages fro Matilda, Elizabeth Jane, Norah, John Joseph and Catherine but as civil registration offers no other real info, it's been hard to tell and to gain any more info. Tried to check parish records- Elphin, I think- but no luck to date. Thank you!  Kathy

  • Hi Kathy

There are two civil parishes called "Killukin" in Co. Roscommon.

Ardakillin is from the one near Roscommon town.
    https://www.logainm.ie/en/44147?s=Ardakillin

The church records for the other Killukin near Carrick on Shannon and Boyle are no good to you.

Your "Killukin" in the barony of Roscommon will not have Catholic parish registers named "Killukin". Your RC parish district is Roscommon near Knockcroghery.

  • Hi Allen,

The Catholic parish records for baptisms in Killukin go back to 1811. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0554 .

    Good luck,

  • Thank you so much for the information. Sadly, the parish records are just before she was born. But it's great to know where exactly the town is and what parish she was affiliated with.   Kathy
