The census reports of 1901 and 1911 show Bartly Sharkey and Lizzie ( Letford) Sharkey, a married couple, living in Tonroe/Feenagh. Lizzie's parents were Ellen Mulrooney and Michael Letford. Bartley's were Catherine Cunningham and John Sharkey. Any further information about either individual? Burial site? Anything that would indicate home/farm site still standing? Any explanation why one townland is called Tonroe/Feenagh and the townland directly next to it is Tonroe/Creen? Any background on the townland history? Thank you!

Welcome to Ireland ReachingOut!
I was unable to locate the marriage record in Co. Roscommon even though the marriage was around 1885 according to the 1911 census. Possibly you have the record. I could not find a death record for either Bartholomew or Elizabeth on www.irishgenealogy.ie
I found some background from 1837 on Tonroe or Feenagh and Tonroe and Creen. Usually when you have two names, it was just a way for the locals to distinguish two townlands e.g Upper or Lower, More or Beg, North or South etc

Thank you! I only have the small phone screen with me to look at these links right now. Will take a closer look when I return home. This couple emigrated to States to marry in the late 1870's and they then lived in the same city as most of their siblings. Unlike the rest of the family, they returned to Tonroe in 1880. I just can't figure out why I can't find a death certificate for either.

My ancestors are also from Tenroe or Feenagh (John Kenny). Don't know if it'll help with some of your questions, but there is a trove of information here - Griffith's Valuation (1858):
You will note that Letford, James, Sharkey, Lawrence and Sharkey, Patrick were all neighbors (with John Kenny and others)...all "rented" from Viscount Lorton...

Thank you to those who have left me messages! Roger McDonnell and Bill Kenny!
I am still looking for a death certificate for Bartholomew Sharkey and/or Lizzie Letford Sharkey. I would think death records from around 1920's would now be available but I have yet to find them.
This couple were neighbors, as *Bill Kenny noted. They left Ireland and emigrated to Massachusetts where other family members who had emigrated earlier now lived. They married in 1880 in MA and, shortly after, returned to Ireland to settle back in Tonroe. I'd love to know if it was because they inherited property ("rental " property) from either Letfords or Sharkeys. I can't seem to figure out the location of the actual property Bartly and Lizzie lived in on the current maps and I can't figure out the family house numbers from old maps either. I haven't come across any information on Bartly or Lizzie from thier marriage in 1880 to the 1901 Irish Census. I cannot determine if they had children or not. I am assuming they had none, for no children's names are listed on either the 1901 or 1911 Irish census but they could possible have had some who had moved away. *Bill Kenny, by any chance have you photos of the neighborhood in which your ancestors lived? Or any stories from the Tonroe of the past?
Thank you !

I was unable to locate a civil death record for either Bartholomew or Lizzie.
The 1911 census shows no children.
