My Great Grand Father Peter Salmon 1850-1909  was a Baker, the family lived in Castle Street at No 2 according to the 1901 census and at No 13 according to the 1911 census.   Peter Married Anne Tighe c1854-1938  in Galway on the 23rd Febuary 1874.   They had 12 children but unfortunately 3 died young.   My Grandmother wasTeresa Salmon was born 1887.

Just wondering if there are any distant relatives still living in Roscommon?

  • Thank you so much for your reply, I have very little information on the three girls that left Ireland together. And what I have is all on their arrival in Australia. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Hi. I think we may be related. Anne Tighe (Salmon) was my Great Granny. I need to check with my mum but I think we may even have a picture of her if it's the right relative. My Grandad was Johnnie Salmon and was a barber in Castle Street and I have an Aunt and cousins still living in Roscommon Town. If you want more information let me know and I'll see what I can get out of my mum.

  • Hi CathyO,

Very nice to hear from you, from what you say it would appear that we could be second cousins.

I have a John Salmon in my tree born 22nd June 1894, my grandmothers brother.   Yes he was a Barber, and I have some photo's obtained from my grandmother, of I believe, some of his family near the Barbers shop, but I do not know who they are, probably taken in the 1920s/30s

I am trying to build up a picture of the salmons and their families, so far I have the details of Mary Anne Salmon 1875, also, Francis Salmon 1890, who married Harriet Fahy, and would be happy to share this information with you

If you do have a Photo of Anne Tighe I would very much like to see it, I would also be interested in details of your family, eg who did John marry, also his children, that is assuming your family would have no objection to this.

    Regards

    Mike

  • Hi Mike

i haven't really done any research on my mum's side but I'll have a chat with her tomorrow. She is Mary Anne Salmon, John Salmon's eldest daughter. The only note I have About Anne Tighe's children is the following:

Mary Anne, Patrick, Peter, Tom, Tessie (presume Theresa), Frank ( Francis?), John, Agnes and Richard and think there was a Joseph too.

As soon as I have more info I'll pass it on.

    Hi Mike,
I belive that we have a copy of the photo outside the hairdressers on Castle St, if it is the same photo, then in it are Michael (Mickey)Salmon, Ellen Salmon, and Margaret (Peggy) Salmon. Ellen is my wifes mother. (photo attached).

    Thanks
    Paul
