Hi,
I'm looking for any information on my Grandmother Anne O'Connor nee Coneely I have spelt the surname this way as this is the way it appears on her marriage certificate she married Bartholomew O'Connor in Spiddal in 1933 my Grandfather Bartholomew was born in Sligo but they were both living in Sheane Spiddel when married and I believe that my Grandmother was born somewhere in Galway and that her father had a boarding house which at some point she ran for him her Father was Patrick Coneely and his occupation on the marriage certificate is a Farmer one of the witnesses is a Margaret Coneely I beleive this was her sister, I would be gratefully for any info that would help to trace her side of the family.
Thank you Reenie

Hi Reenie,
Thank you very much for your message.
Given the dates that you have mentioned Anne?s birth would have been recorded in civil records as civil registration began officially in Ireland in 1864. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Have you tried looking for the family in the 1901/1911 census records? These can give lots of useful information. I did a search for Patrick Coneely in Galway in the 1911 census and here is what came back:
You could also try searching in church records for information. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Spiddal parish, follow this link:
As you can see from the above link the galway Family History Society West have copies available. here is their email if you would like to contact them, however please note that a fee may apply: galwaywestroots@eircom.net
Here are some other websites that you may find useful:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

Hi Reenie,
I am a Conneely from Spiddal but not related to your family. I know this family very well and have just spoken to a cousin of yours and I forwarded on your e-mail. Perhaps you would like to contact me and I will give you more information.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Conneely
