Hi,
My great x 4 grandfather Farrel McGlone was born in Emlaghfad in 1769 (I have documents from his service in the Napoleonic Wars and his time in Kilmainham hospital in Dublin). Unfortunately, apart from a description of him this is all the background I have apart from his military campaigns before he became a Chelsea Pensioner. During his military service he passed through Doncaster Yorkshire England and he married my great x 4 grandmother Ann Pogmore there in 1798. The family remained in Doncaster until Farrel died in 1854. I have spent 8 years trying to discover his, infact my roots but I have hit a brick wall! I live in northern England so any help would be so gratefully received.
Many thanks for your time
Julie

Hi Julie,
Thank you for your message. I hope someone is able to help you get past this brick wall. Unfortunately, it may be difficult given Farrel?s very early date of birth. It may be an ide to get in contact with the Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Centre. Here is their email: heritagesligo@eircom.net Please note that a fee may apply.
In the meantime, here are the McGlones that were recorded in Sligo in the Tithe Applotment Books (Land records from 1823-38)
Here are the McGlones in the later Griffith?s Valuation (1848-64)
And finally here are McGlones that were recorded in the county in the 1901 census records;:http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=1901&surname=mcglone&exact=&firstname=&county=Sligo&townland=&ded=&age=&sex=&relationToHead=&religion=&education=&occupation=&marriageStatus=&marriageYears=&childrenBorn=&childrenLiving=&birthplace=&language=&deafdumb=&search=Search&sort=&pageSize=100
