Are there Langans still in Sligo?
My great-grandfather Michael Langan (b. 1868 in Cabragh) emigrated with his family in the early 1870s. His father Thomas Langan (b. 1837) married Bridget McNulty (b. 1845). I have found Thomas' father (also named Thomas) and probable uncles Michael and John and, I think, Bridget's father Michael in the Tithe Applotment books for Killalla diocese, Carrowhubbock, and am looking for more information on Thomas and Bridget.

Have you tried looking for more information in Church records? As civil registration did not become mandatory until 1864, this will probably be where you will find information. You may be able to find their birth records which will give you their mothers? names.
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
If they were married after 1864 you should be able to find their marriage record in civil records, as well as the birth record for any children born after this date.. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
