Hi,

My great-grandfather was James Davey of Drumaskibbole who emigrated to Jersey City, NJ, USA abt 1892-93. His parents were Michael Davey and Bridget Walsh, who were married in Taunagh 25 Aug 1858. Their children, as far as I can determine through parish records, were Mary, b. 21 Feb. 1859; Patrick, b. 18 July 1860; Michael, b. 3 Dec. 1861; James, b. 9 Aug. 1865; and John, b. 11 July 1867. I believe that John emigrated, too, because one of the sponsors of James and his wife Margaret nee Foley's first child, Mary Geraldine, was John Davey. However, I have not been able to find any other information about him in Jersey City. I know that the Davey surname is quite common in this part of Sligo, but I am hoping to discover if any direct descendants of the siblings of my great-grandfather are still in the Drumaskibbole area.

Thanks,

Jeanne

    Hi Jeanne,

    Thank you for your message.

I hope that someone who knows the family makes a connection with you.

Perhaps it may also be a good idea to also place this message in a more local forum to increase the likelihood that someone will reach out to you. Some places where you possibly may be able to do this are:

    The Sligo Champion:  http://www.independent.ie/regionals/sligochampion/

    Sligo Weekender: http://sligoweekender.ie/

    Sligo Today: http://sligoweekender.ie/

    Sligo Champion: http://www.sligochampion.com/

I hope this suggestion is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

  • I have been curious about our family history and came across this website.  I also found something on RootsWeb written to Jeanne from HDavey and was wondering if it was you.  The post was from 2004 which listed members of my family.   My grandmother was Mary (Molly) Davey Doherty and she was married to Cornelius Doherty.  Her sister was Margaret Davey married to James Davey.  We all lived in New Britain, CT.

Just wondering if we are from the same family tree?

    Regards,

    Sarah

  • Hello, Sarah! Thanks for your question. My Margaret Davey was born Margaret Foley from County Clare. She married James Davey (from Sligo) in Jersey City, NJ. Yes, that Jeanne was I, but Harold Davey, if he is still around and helping out us Americans working to link with our home counties, would be able to help you with your question.

    Good luck with your search!
