Do you know what the family name was before it was changed to Marlan?

I'm sorry if my original message wasn't clear - I believe that John's name in Ireland was Marlin and his wife's was Leahy or Lahey or Leahey; for whatever reason, they went by the surname Marlan in Australia (that was my mother's maiden name, as it was also her father's name).

I found a record for this family. November 1852 ? Ship John Grey.

John Marlin, Borrisokane Co. Tipperary. Age 27yrs. Father Thomas Marlin and Mother Bridget. Both dead .

Elizabeth Leahy, ( unable to make out Parish ) She was 30 years old. Father Michael and Mother Catherine.

Children all from Mothers parish on record.

Bridget.... 5 yrs. old.

Catherine 2yr. old... Died on Voyage.

Thomas.. Infant.

No John listed.

I will check to see if there are any Marlin families living in the Borrisokane area.

Yes, I made a mistake - the infant on the "John Gray" was Thomas, not John.

I've checked the various references that you provided but found nothing further of relevance.

If you discover any remnants of the Marlin family (either current or historical) I will be most interested. Particularly if it points to somebody/somewhere that I can visit when I'm next in Ireland in April/May next year (2014).
