Hello,
I am searching for the parents of Timothy Maher, born ca. 1801, possibly in Bourney Parish/Boolareagh. He married Catherine Cummin(g)s sometime before 1836 and this couple had at least four children in Ireland between 1836 and 1843 before leaving Tipp for America. According to information gleaned from US census records of their children later in life, the Mahers arrived in the US between 1847-1854, but the latest arrival year could only have been ca. 1850 since their son John Maher was born in New York (state) ca. 1850.
Catherine Cummings was born between 1810-1817, but all I know for her birth place is County Tipperary. Children born in in Ireland (presumably in County Tipperary):
Sarah Maher, born 22 June 1836
Mary Maher, born 16 September 1838
James Maher, born ca. 1841
Elizabeth Ann Maher, born ca. 1843
Timothy Maher died in Wyoming County, New York on 24 August 1876 and his wife Catherine died in the same county in 1878. Any help appreciated.
Cordially,
Chris

Hello Tim,
Thanks for the grave marker transcription. Just to be clear, the Timothy Maher for whom I am searching was born ca. 1801 and died in the US in 1876. I am not sure there is a direct connection between my ancestor and the Timothy on the grave marker, but if you can find a connection between the two, I would be most grateful.
Timothy Maher and his wife Catherine Cummings left Ireland between 1847-1850 and both died in Wyoming County, NY (near Buffalo). Catherine was born between 1810-1817, also in County Tipperary, but I am not sure of the parish.
If it helps, six of Timothy and Catherine's children were born in Tipp (not sure of the parish):
Margaret Maher (b. ca. 1831)
Bridget Maher (b. ca. 1832)
Sarah Maher (22 Jun 1836)
Mary Maher (16 Sep 1838)
James Maher (b. ca. 1841)
Elizabeth Ann Maher (15 Mar 1843)
By the time their next child was born (1850), they were in the US. Maybe having the approximate birth dates of these children will help find the family I am looking for. It would be interesting if the Timothy Maher on the grave marker is descended from a collateral line.
I appreciate your help very much.
Cordially,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I'm not sure if you ever got more information, but I came across your message while looking for more information on Margaret Maher b. ca. 1831 in County Tipperary. Do you happen to have any more information related to Margaret?
Also, I think this is the gravestone of the Timothy Maher you were looking for: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=82749282&ref=acom

Hello Scott,
Thank you for your reply to my original query. I know about the grave marker for Timothy Maher in NY. I was/am searching for his parents in County Tipperary, Ireland, whose names and other data I do not know. Unfortunately, I have no further information about Margaret Maher other than what I included in my original post.
Are you related to Margaret? I am not sure if the first four children of Timothy Maher and Catherine Cummings ever came to the US, or even if they survived to adulthood.
I would be curious to know more if you are descended from Margaret, and if your Margaret's parents were Timothy Maher and Catherine Cummings.
Cordially,
Chris
