I am researching my father's family.  He was Michael O'Gorman born 24 October 1916 and died in Chiswick, London on 31 December 1985.  His father died young aged 29 Patrick O'Gorman and his mother was Bridget Doherty.  They married in Bansha on 02 April 1913.

  • Hi Tom

Thank you so much for all this information abou the O'Gormans in Cahir.  I couldn't see any attachment however.

The gravestone for Michael O'Gorman is nothing to do with my lot as my Michael O'Gorman (great grandfather) died in Cahir on 8 January 1904 agreed 44 years and suffering from senile debility.  I have found a gravestone he errect in Tubrid in memory of two of his children who died young.

I am pretty sure Bridget moved with her daughter, her husband & her children to Enniscorthy.  By that time 2 of her sons were dead and my dad was living in London.  I understand Bridget's daughter Mary married a Laurence Doyle who was in the military.  I think my grandfather Patrick O'Gorman died aged 29 years leaving Bridget slone with 5 children to bring up.

I have now gone back to my great great grandfather on my father's side, his name being Denis O'Gorman.  My great grandfather Michael O'Gorman was born on 2 February 1858 to Denis & Bridget Casey.

It is so interesting and so obsessive when you start this geneology lark!!  Thanks again for all your help.

    Regards,

    Gerri

    Hi Tom & Clare

I cannot associate these gravestones with my O'Gorman family.  Michael O'Gorman my great grandfather died in 1904 and I attach a photo of the headstone he erected to his two dead children.  I do not know of any Noel O'Gorman either in our family.  I honestly think is just a concidence that there were 2 Michael O'Gormans in Bridge Street, but the dates do not match up.  My dad, Michael O'Gorman was living in Chiswick, London in 1975 and died there on 31st December 1985..

Bridget O'Gorman definitely moved to Enniscorthy (where she died) with her daughter Mary Doyle nee O'Gorman.

I cannot open the attachments on my pc, but have mentioned to open them on my iphone!!

    Regards,

  • Hi Tom

I just can't reconcile these two gravestones with my family.  My great grandfather Michael O'Gorman died in 1904 and nmy own father, Michael O'Gorman died in London on 31 December 1985.

  • Hi Tom,

The info regarding the O'Gorman family is fascinating and of course if the tombstones relate to my dad's uncle, then he must have been born to Denis O'Gorman & Bridget Casey, my great great grandparents.

I always understood that my dad's sister (Mary) was married when she had children, but if Bridget moved to Enniscorthy with her daughter and they were all O'Gormans, then obviously Mary didn't marry Larry Doyle until she reached Enniscorthy!!   I understood that Larry Doyle was in the military in Cahir, but stories get muddled in families as we well know!!  I look forward to hearing more from you about my heritage!!

  • I have got Harriett O'Gorman arriving on Ellis Island in 1904 from Cahir.  Has anyone got any further information re marriage, children etc.  She was only 20 when she arrived in New York to work as a servant.
