If possible I would love to find more information on my ancestors ... from Drom Tipperary ..

Patrick KENNEDY born abt 1800 married Mary CARTHY, one of their children was Rody or Roger and he came to Australia and married  Ellen CONNOLLY in Melbourne in 1866.

Ellen's parents were :   Matthew CONNOLLY and Mary GUIDER both born around 1800 ...

As far as I know .. all of them were from the Drom area .. but that is all the information I have.

Would love to be able to find more if we can .... my email is ... aussie_femme@hotmail.com .. if anyone has info .. thanks so much

regards

Maree

  • Hi Maree,

It is best to keep the conversation here on the the message board rather than personal emails, as any information people give you, will also then be available for others to see, which might in turn spark people's memories.

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Drom and Inch (Cashel and Emly). These date from 1827 for both baptismal and marriage records. These can be found at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 2491. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.

Hopefully someone in the Drom area will be able to help shed some more light for you.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

Looked at Drom RC parish records on microfilm today and found the following.

    Marriage

    18 Feb 1828

Patrick Kenedy & Mary Carty were joined in marriage by Rev Thos Mullany in presence of Thos Walsh Judy Malonny or Malouny & Thos Beeton

    Baptisms

29 Jul 1828 Honoria of Pat Kenedy & Mary Carty Ballinlonty Sprs Robert Stapleton & Ellen Boyle

16 Jan 1830 Owen of Pat Kenedy & Mary Carty Sprs Danl Manning & Judy Maher

Searched to Dec 1839 and did not find any more baptisms - possible the family moved to another parish where Roger/Rody was born.

    Baptisms

6 Oct 1830 Ballypk (assume this is the townland Ballypatrick) Ellen of Matt Connelly & Mary Gyder Sprs Matt Connelly & Mary Connelly

2 Oct 1832 Ballypatrick James of Mat Connelly & Mary Guider Sprs James Connelly & Bess Unil ( found this surname difficult to decipher - initially thought it was Neil but see baptism 28 Aug 1836)

Ballypatrick 28 Aug 1836 Mat of Mat Connelly & Mary Guider Sprs Thos Unil & Judy Hannigan

24 Jan 1839 Ballypatrick Maria of Mat Connelly & Mary Guider Sprs John Gleeson & Margt Cahill

Found no marriage for Mat Connelly & Mary Guider but the rmarriages only start in 1828 and it could also mean that Mary Guider was from a different parish as the marriage tradionally took place in the bride's parish.

Hope this is of some help

    Regards

    Clare

  • Thank you Clare for researching this family for me ..    I was wondering though ... were the 'churches' mentioned at all ... ?  Also .. I think from what family are saying .. Mary Guider was most likely from Templemore .. do you think there would be some records for their marriage there ?

I would really like to find out their parents names and where they were from .. in case we visit there ..  for both the Kennedy and Connolly family.   It would be really lovely to see the churches they were married or even born in. :)

    Thanks for helping ..

    regards

  • Hi Maree,

The parish you have put the message in is the correct one (Drom). The easiest although not the cheapest way to check your records is to go to the Tipperary Family History Research website here: http://www.tfhr.org/ or Roots Ireland here: http://www.rootsireland.ie/

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
