I just found my grandfather's Baptisim record in the Parish of Gortnhoe in Co. Tipperary. We have been searching in Co. Clare for rmany years as that he what he told the family. He was born Mar 23, 1846 to Richard Hanrahan and Anistasia Fogarty.. They came to Buffalo, N.Y. in 1850. The parents died by 1855 when he and his brothers were put in an catholic orphanage. He spelled his name Handrehan. I found his father's Baptisim in Parish Moycarkey, parents Michel and Joanna Mulloughney. Anistasia's Baptisim was in Gortnhoe, parents Phil and Catherine Morris Fogarty. I did not find any marriages and I can't tell what community or town would be their home. This is all new inf. to me that I have looked for for many years. We made a trip to Ireland several years ago but didn't search in Co. Tipperary. I'm too old to make another trip  now!  Philip did very well, became a Lawyer, Mayor and Post Master.. Any informationon these families would br appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There are three civil parishes that relate to Gortnahoe RC parish: Fennor, Kilcooly and Buolick.I looked at the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and it appears that the Hanrahans and Fogartys came from Fennor civil parish. If you look at the link below, you will see three Fogarty records in Fennor and Clonoura townlands. No Phil is listed. There are also three Hanrahan records but no Richard. I did notice a Richard Houlahan in Fennor townland. Possibly this is the father of your grandfather and either the name was misspelled by the Griffiths surveyor.
