Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out Parish of Holycross.

Holycross and its history.

Irish: Mainistir na Croise Naofa

A parish, partly in the barony of Eliogarty, and partly in that of Middlethird, Diocese of Cashel and Emly and County of Tipperary.

Located 6klm from the town of Thurles, home to the G.A.A Museum, Semple Stadium and St. Maryメs Famine and War Museum. It is also home to Holy Cross Abbey, a restored Cistercian monastery situated on the River Suir. The Abbey is one of the most popular attractions in Co. Tipperary. It became a national monument in 1880 and reopened as a place of worship in 1969 welcoming pilgrims and tourists all year round. It houses two relics of the True Cross and there is a memorial garden to Padre Pio adjacent to Holycross Abbey.
The picturesque village on the banks of the River Suir has a number of Irish pubs and restaurants in the area as well as being close to other popular tourist sites such as Cabragh Wetlands, Farney Castle and The Rock of Cashel. Farney Castle is located a short distance away from Holycross and is the home and design studio of Irish International Designer, Cyril Cullen, and it is the only Round Tower in Ireland occupied as a family home. His work includes fine Parian porcelain figurines and ornaments and a celebrated range of knit sportswear.

Holycross is close to the national looped walks in Upperchurch which are popular for hiking and walking and the village is an ideal base to explore the heritage, culture, food and activities available in Tipperary.

Please feel free to post a message.

Good luck with your research.
