I have been trying to gather some details on a line in my family tree through my paternal grandmother Mary Collins (née Walsh). My grandmother was born in Grange, Donohill to Martin Walsh and Annie Navin, but through my previous research I found that Martin in fact came from Lattin.
Martin Walsh was born in November 1884 and was baptised in Lattin Church on 11th November 1884. His parents were Maurice Walsh and Ellen Marnane. Maurice was born between about 1848 and 1850 in Lattin and died on 3rd March 1892 in Lattin. Ellen was born in about 1856 and came from Ballinulty, a townland near the village of Lattin, she was the daughter of John Marnane. The only death record that fits with this Ellen's profile is an Ellen Walsh who died at Church Street, Tipperary Town on 30th July 1896, and it states in the register that she is the widow of Maurice Walsh, labourer. I have come across entries from time to time where individuals have died in Church Street or Henry Street in Tipperary which leads me to believe there were nursing homes of some sort on these streets, but I've been unable to locate any history of nursing in Tipperary Town so I can't be sure. Ellen and Maurice married on 6th February 1879 in Lattin.
As for Maurice and Ellen's parents I can't really pinpoint anything. According to the marriage record, Maurice's father was Patrick and there is a Patrick Walsh in Griffith's Valuation living on the main street in Lattin in one of the cottages right next to the church. These cottages are still standing so I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the history of these buildings and who lived there. A Denis Walsh appears to have been occupying the second cottage and I imagine was related to Patrick. As for Ellen's father John Marnane, I can't locate any Marnanes or Murnanes or Mournanes present in Ballinulty and I know from the marriage register that John was dead by 1879, which also suggests that Patrick Walsh was indeed still alive at this time (since there is no note attached to his name).
If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions they would be very welcome.
Thanks and kind regards,
Patrick Collins

Hi Mary,
Thanks for checking on RootsIreland. I was also cross-checking what you found and the children of Maurice and Ellen match what I have. I looked for the baptismal date you posted on the National Library church records site and I believe that must be Maurice. The entry is at the very bottom of the baptismal register and as you said it's blurred so it's not possible to see his mother's maiden name or the sponsors. I know that these records were digitised from microfilm from the 1950s so it's possible that some problems with legibility might be from the original transfer to microfilm so there might be a slim chance that the details are legible on the original register. I've no idea if these are held by Lattin parish anymore though or if they're in some other location.
Thanks,
Patrick
