My husband's ancestor, Bartholomew Kennedy, was born to Patrick and Anne (Kennedy) Kennedy in Guteen in 1824. He was baptised in the parish of Castleiney. Martin Kennedy and Mary Dogherty were sponsors.
He had a sister Mary, born about 1828, but I cannot find her baptism.
Bartholomew went to Boston, Massachusetts in 1842. In 1848 he married there Bridget Lyons of Clonmel. After a spell in the California gold rush with his brothers-in-law Thomas Lyons and Patrick Powers he returned to Boston.
About 1859 he "disappearded", no record of his death can be found in Massachusetts.
I'm hoping to connect with any Kennedys from Gurteen and would appreciate research advice.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We have a parish liaison in Lorrha parish. I will alert him that you have posted a message. Let me know if you have not heard back in ten days or so.

Hi Carole
Although there is a Gurteen in the parish of Lorrha and Dorrha the fact that Bartolomew was baptised in Casteiney makes an unlikely connection between the two. Do you have any other reference to the parish of Lorrha and Dorrha ? There is a Gurteen townsland in Castleiney also.
