I am looking for information about Patrick Scully. He was born in 1782 at Barnickard, Tipperary, Ireland. He married Mary Burrows in Ireland on 19 February 1829. They had at least three children while in Ireland.

The first child, Margaret, was born in 1830 in the Mullinahone Parish, with the residence listed as Bawnrick. Her sister Mary was born in 1832 in the same Parish, but the residence is listed as Poulacapple. Finally, her brother, Patrick, was born in 1839 in the same Parish, but no residence was mentioned.

I assume that the 1839 Patrick died, as another Patrick with Patrick and Mary listed as the parents, was baptised in Prescott, Ontario on 30 March 1845. This Patrick is my great, great grandfather.

  • Michael,

It looks like there were at least two more children. Anne's record includes "Burris" for "Burrows."

  • In 1853, in Griffith's Valuation of Tipp, there was a head of household as follows:

Scully Patrick Bawnrickard Kilvemnon Co. Tipperary

Your Patrick would likely have been in Canada, but this may have been a relative.

    Hi Patricia,

I found mention of the death of Patrick Scully in 1865.

It shows Portunna as the place.

This seems some distance from Tipperary, so I wondered if it might be the same person or someone with a similar name.

I found four burial grounds that were indexed in Tipperary but no Scully entries.

Any idea where to look next?
