My Ggrandfather Patrick Craddick and his brother Michael arrived in the U.S. on 7 June, 1861 abord the ship Florence Nightengale. They both arrived in Rockford, Winnebago Co. IL about 1867. Their first cousin Patrick Quinlan arrived in 1869 or 70. Patrick Quinlan is buried on my Ggrandfathers plot. The back of his headstone reads, born in the Parish of Moyne, Tipperary, Ireland.
My Gaunt left a letter stating that her father Patrick Craddick and his wife Catherine (Quirk) Craddick were from Co. Templemore in Ireland. We know this is a mistake, which should have read, near Templemore, in Co. Tipperary, IR. Catherines father was Patrick Quirk and wife UNK.
I think my GGgrandfather was JAMES Craddick or Craddock. Griffiths Val. list 3 James Craddocks in or around Cooleeney, Fethard, and Thurles. He married Ann Quinlan the sister of Michael Quinlan and wife, Bridget (Ryan) Quinlan. They are also the parents of Patrick Quinlan whose death cert. provided this info.
I also know that the Craddicks and Quinlans were related to Msgr. John A. Ryan from Minnesota, whose father was Wm. Ryan and wife , Maria Luby. Wm's father was Wm. Ryan and wife Jane (Bridget?) (Quinlan) Ryan. Jane or (Bridget) I think is my GGgrandmothers sister. (Still with me so far?). The Ryans were also living "near the town of Templemore". Info taken from Ryan Family Book.
I have struck out 3 times in Co. Tipperary, Ireland, trying to find the Bapt. or Birth records of Patrick Craddick, or Ock, born abt. 1841, and his brother Michael Craddick, or Ock, born abt. 1842, and the marriage of Anne Quinlan to James Craddick, or (Ock). I have been researching my family and helping others for 22yrs. Patrick Quinlan was born cir. 1841. Wm. Ryan (Jr.) cir also 1841.
I was a volunteer for RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness) here in the U.S. for a few years before they closed down; something similiar to irelandxo.com. I miss it very much and I am glad to see this project started in Ireland. I made a lot of people from around the world very happy by finding their U.S. relatives, mostly in Wisconsin, Rock Co., where I live.
Hope to be the first in the Parish of Moyne. Thanks in advance.
Dennis Craddick-The Icky part of the Ock family from Tipperary.
