Middleton/Maxwell

I recognise your name as being a descendant of Carlyon Middleton Rickman, son of the daughter of Henry Middleton, Catherine (Kitty) Rickman. I am a great grand son of Henry Middleton, descended through his youngest son, Henry Joseph Middleton. My father was Norman Ralph Middleton.

I have extensive research on Henry and his descendants.

But little on the Irish origins of both Henry and Catherine.

Henry was the son of another Henry. There is a little evidence to suggest that in addition to the Ballingarry mentioned on his marriage certificate and in his obituary, he may have come form the area of Lisbryan, near Ballingarry. No more specific information has emerged.

Kitty Maxwell was the daughter of Edward Maxwell and Jane Cavanagh. Edward was an engineer (in what I don't know,) He seems to have had a tenancy in Kyletombrickane, near Borrisokane.

The birth dates for both Henry and Catherine are confused, to state the obvious.

Recently I have made contact with descendants from Charlotte Elizabeth (Middleton) Denholm, and James Edward Fitzgerald Middleton. Adding your and my family lines, we can build a complete picture!

I have spent considerable time developing more social and personality knowledge of Henry, especially using NZ Papers Past.

The Irish parts of our family tree are the hardest to decifer. Henry Middleton and Catherine Maxwell emmigrated to New Zealand a year apart, but were married here a month after she arrived. This suggests that they knew each other before they set out. This was is 1862.They seemed to have come from roughly the same part of Ireland. Very happy to exchange information.
