Looking for a Patrick C Powers b. 1820 (abt) of Nenagh (Tipperary).  Parents:  unknown.  Patrick was married to Ellen McKeogh and left for America with his wife and brother, Roger, in Nov 1845 leaving behind his parents and siblings John and Henry.  Although the story has been told  that Patrick's brothers, John and Henry, did come to America but eventually returned to Ireland.  Any/all information or help would be greatly appreciated.  Lisa (Chicago, Illinois USA)

  • Hi there,

The parish of Nenagh (Killaloe diocese) has baptism records fro Jan 1792 - Nov 1809 and again from Nov 1830 - Nov 1842. So it just misses your ancestors birth! There are marriage records available. You could try writing to the parish priest to see if he can find out when Patrick married Ellen. By doing so, you might then be able to find out more family members.

It is possible that Patrick's brothers returned to Nenagh if they returned to Ireland. You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) and the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com

Hopefully someone from Nenagh will be able to offer you more information.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,
