Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out - Parish of Templemore, Co. Tipperary

'It's a long way to Tipperary, it's a long way to go'

'It's a long way to Tipperary, to the sweetest girl I know!

Our aim is to connect all people with a link to Templemore. You may live here, have visited here or maybe are tracing ancestors who left long ago. In any case, we’re sure to have lots to share and are delighted to welcome you.

Templemore (An Teampall M?r), "the big church", was, up until 1572, known as Corkatenny (Corca Teine), a name that translated as "the kingdom of the descendants of Tenne (Teine)". Christianity was introduced by St. Sile?n and the townland of Kiltillane (Cil Sile?n) was named in his honour.

This North Tipperary town is situated in the heart of the midlands, a short distance from Thurles (home of Hurling), Roscrea (home of Heritage) and Moneygall (ancestral home of Barack Obama). Nestled in the valley between the Devils Bit and the Slieve Bloom Mountains, Templemore proudly boasts a 72 acre public park and is emersed in military history. The town in modern times has become the base for Ireland?s police force (An Garda Siochana).

As the song says "It's a long way to Tipperary" but it's not if you decide to visit Tipperary this year and use a car to get you around our beautiful country side. If you are coming from Dublin direction all you have to remember is to make your way to M50(S) then travel on the M7 until you come to Junction 22, take the N62 exit and turn left for Templemore. If you are travelling from Shannon or Limerick direction don't forget to turn right for Templemore after taking the N62 exit. If you arrive into Cork Airport your journey to Templemore will be made all the more smooth by travelling along the M8 until you travel by the Rock of Cashel. Then take the exit at Junction 6 onto the N62 and you will soon see the signs for Thurles and Templemore.

Of course, if you want to have a really care-free visit why not use our regular daily train service which stops in Templemore and serves the main lines from Dublin, Cork and Limerick. Bus services are also available in Templemore for your visit.

Please feel free to post a message.

Good luck with your research.
