My name is Carol Adams and I am the great granddaughter of Michael & Brigid Madden Gorman. We travelled to Ballyporeen in 2000 and I gathered as much as I could of my ancestry. Here is what I found: Michael Gorman was born abt 1843 to John Gorman and Elizabeth Brien. He was baptized Oct 1, 1843 in the Catholic Church in Ballyporeen. His sponsors were P. Fitz and Anthony O'Brien. As far as we know he had the following siblings: Edward (emigrated to US) 1841; Patrick 1846; and Margaret 1849. On Feb 5, 1870 he married Bridgid (Bridget) Madden in the Ballyporeen Catholic Church. We assume that he emigrated shortly after to the US, as his first daughter, Elizabeth was born in 1872 in Illinois, USA. Brigid Madden was baptized in the Catholic Church in Ballyporeen on 16 Apr 1838. She was the daughter of John & Ellen Madden. Their address was Glennacunna. According to the Bru Boru Heritage Center, John and Ellen were married in 1831 in Ballyporeen. In the 1950's my grandmother, Kathleen Gorman Crandall, corresponded with a gentleman named John Burke who lived in Ballyporeen. He said that his mother Catherine (Mrs Thomas Burke) had died in 1947 at the age of 82 years. His father Thomas had died in 1928. His mother had siblings: Patrick, Denis and Mary that had moved to Boston, Mass but they had never heard from them again. Mr Burkes mother was Catherine Madden. I have, and am willing to share, information on Michael and Bridgid Madden Gorman in the US and would love to know of any information or relatives still living in or near Ballyporeen.

HI
it was interesting reading the above in relation to Gormans and Ballyporeen. I know that I am related to Gormans from Ballyporeen . James Scully married Mary O'Gorman Kilcarroon Ballyporeen in 1893. Marys father was David O'Gorman whose occuption is given as labourer. THe witnesses were Michael Flynn and Johanna O'Gorman.
James and Mary are my gr gr grandparents and I have a photo of Mary Gorman Scully taken c 1950.
I dont know if there is any relationship with your Gormans as I havent completed a family tree for that side of the family
