Hi all
My great Grandmother came to australia between 1887 and 1882. She married John McPaul somewhere in Queensland and died at the North Star Hotel at the 20 Mile Camp outside Richmond, Queensland.
Kate was 30 years old when she died on the 7 May 1889 according to her death certificate.. This would sugest she was born about 1859. She had 2 children , John Clarence and Mary Jane. Her death certificate also stated she was born in Tipperary,Ireland and her father was a butter merchant by the name of Michael Walsh. He mothers surname "O'Brien" was all that was on the certificate. It also states Kate had been in Queensland 12 years and was 22 when she was married.
Mary Jane's birth certificate states he parents were married in Rockhampton on the 20th December 1878. I can not find a marriage certificate for John and Kate, nor can I find a Birth Certificate for John Clarence.
I would appriciate any help I could get. I have looked for birth certificates for Kate and her mother and father. I have also looked for a marriage certificate for michael walsh and ? o'brien.
Thanking you all
Lots of love

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Do you know what religion the family were? Also, even though Kate?s death certificate states Tipperary, Ireland, this may be referring to the County Tipperary only, and not the parish of Tipperary. (Irish land divisions can be very confusing, for more information on this follow this link http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-land-divisions.html )
Most Irish record sources are based on parishes, so it may make your search easier if you can confirm Tipperary parish as a place of origin. You may be able to use the land records to do this. These records do not have any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. You could try searching for Kate?s parents. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Once you have a definite parish you can then look at Church records for information. Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find helpful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. Follow this link to the Roman Catholic parishes of Tipperary. Simply click on a parish to see what is available there:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/tipperaryrc.htm
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
Another good website is https://familysearch.org/ This is a huge database of genealogical records that has been compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
You could also try searching at http://rootsireland.ie/ -however you have to pay to use this site
Some other websites which you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Genealogy Resources: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/tipperary/index.html
Alternatively, you could try contacting the cultural centre in South Tipperary for possible assistance-however a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:
Bru Boru Cultural Centre,
Rock of Cashel,
Co. Tipperary.
Phone: +353 (0) 62 6122 Email: eolas@bruboru.ie
I hope that some of this information is helpful and that you are able to find the records you are looking for. Best of luck!
Kind regards,
