This place is in the barony of Strabane to the north-east of the county and is 5 miles from Armagh. It would have a population of 7,024 people. The Spereen mountains lies near the parish. There are two church's which is in the village of Gortin. It has got a turret at the top of the building to the west. Its home to the Presbyterians who are in the chapel's.

Census

The 1821 - 1851 census returns were almost all destroyed in a fire. The 1861 - 1891 census returns were destroyed by the government. The 1901 - 1911 census returns are available free of charge on line on the National Archieves of Ireland website.
