Researching John Adams (shoemaker) and Catherine Kelly who married January 12, 1864 in Parish of Clogher, Diocese, Clogher, County Tyrone.  Marriage place is Aghandrummin.  Father's name was John Adams, bride's maiden name Kelly, father Thomas Kelly, first witness Leaner Doherty and Second Witness Maria Orre.  Catherine Kelly was a servant in Lungs.  They had four children before coming to the United States, Rhode Island.  Joseph's dob is 1846 and Catherine's is 1847.  Children:  Jane Adams, dob 1865, Martha dob 1867, John dob 1869, Joseph dob 1871, Isabella dob 1875, Agnace dob 1877 and Catherine dob  1899.  They emigrated to the US in the 1870's and are on 1880 census in Providence, RI, USA.  After spouse Catherine Kelly Adams passed away, he remarried to Catherine Cruise in RI.  They had several more children in RI.  I would appreciate any information about where they lived in Fivemiletown and some photos if any exist.  Researching my family has been amazing as you think of each one.  One of Joe Adams daughters, Jane, married a Conley in RI and I do have some photos of my grandmother Jennie K. Conley Zindell as the line progresses on Ancestry.com.  Just look for my trees "Zindell-Conley".  Thank you for any help you can give.  Mrs. Sunny Cohen (I am a shizcka, my late husband was Jewish).  Again, thank you,

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

I have forwarded your request to a volunteer in Co Tyrone who may be able to offer some advice or assistance.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

  • Sunny,

Here is a link for Failte Romhat which lists the Griffiths Valuation of Clogher Co. Tyrone. Sadly Failte Romhat is not 100% accurate but in this list you will find the parents of John Adams and Catherine Kelly and which town they were living during the valuation.

    http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/tyrone/clogher.htm

Griffith's Valuation was the general valuation of all rateable property in Ireland and was completed between the years 1847 and 1864. It was named after Richard Griffith, Commissioner of Valuation. The valuations were published in a series of over 300 volumes, detailing the names of all the property occupiers in Ireland and the value of their house and land.

I think from your post above you stated John Adams father was also John. In this link he is listed very first listed in Augher which borders Lungs.

Thomas Kelly on the other hand is a bit harder to determine which one he was because there were 4 listed.

There is a Catherine and Thomas Kelly listed in Altanaveragh which is North on the border of Donacavey Parish. Ironically this is near the area my Crawford family was from. Altanaveragh would be a real good possibility and if Catherine was working in Lungs it would explain how she made it to this area to meet John Adams.

The other option would be Thomas Kelly in Cavanacark which is closer to Lungs and Augher.

you can reference the map here but you must have good eyes for this... Annagh (Augher) is in the top center of the southern map of Clogher. you have to right click and rotate the map clockwise until in correct position for reading.

Altanaveragh is on the border of Donacavey. Aghindrumman is about center of the Northern Clogher map and is directly above Killyfaddy.

To get an idea of the location of Clogher in Tyrone here is a map of just the parishes and how they border eachother.

I trust this information will help you in your research.
