I am planning a trip to Ireland in August and I wondered if there were any family of my King family still there.  I am a descendant of William King b 1780 (about)  and Jane Burns.  They came to Australia with their daughters Anne, Mary Jane and Ellen.

They were protestants and free settlers.  Two of the daughters married convicts.  I found a record of Jane arriving with two of her daughters but can not find a record of the arrival of Ellen or William.  I'm not totally certain that William came.  Would love to get to the bottom of this. Anne, Mary Jane and their mother arrived on the "Brothers" in 1841.

Would be most grateful for any help.

  • No King households listed in Castletown in GRiffiths VAluation for 1860. There are several people named King in the Fintona area in the current phone book. (Castletown is on the edge of the town of Fintona).  http://www.ukphonebook.com

  • Hi, my family rented land from the King family in and around1830-40.  I got the land records from Belfast.  I do know they owned a lot of land in fintona, donacavey.  They must have left.  My family left and went to USA from 1816-1848.  I still have family members that did not leave and are still in the same location.  In fact the land looks about the same as your ancestors would have seen it.  It continues to be a rural area.  Go to Ireland, but if you want directions to the land I can give it you.  You can email me at laura@laurastidham.com

  • I'm trying to trace where in Co Tyrone my King ancestors come from.  My great grandfather Henry King was born somewhere in Co Tyrone circa 1825 to an Andrew King and Alice ? - I know Henry had a brother Samuel born circa 1830 and a brother Andrew Jnr born circa 1838.  There was most likely other siblings but details are unknown.  My great grandfather married a Frances Halliday from Bangor Co Down and his brother Samuel married Frances' sister Agnes Jane.  Andrew appears to have remained a batchelor.
suemccall I wonder if you have carried out a DNA test?  Interesting to see if our lineage matched.
