I've posted the following in the Desertcreat section as well but after some more research it looks like there was a William Glover in Donaghenry after my ancestor moved to Canada.  I'm think its close proximity to Desertcreat and the same first name may be an cousin or something?  I don't have a birth date for him but he married Jane Wallace (believe her birth date is 1833) on 03-Oct -1851.  He is listed in Griffith's Valuation in 1859 in Town land Urbalreagh leasing from Andrew Steen.  Does anyone have information on these individuals?

Below is my prior post of my direct ancestor from the Desertcreat section:

Does anyone have tips for finding data from 1700's? My 3rd great-grandfather (William Glover) was born in 1792 in Desertcrete near Stewartstown, County Tyrone. This is according to military records I found (71st Foot). My problem is I can't find anything earlier than this on main genealogy sites. His first born son was name Hugh and first born daughter was named Mary which I believe typically indicates his parents names? He came to Canada in 1831 to receive soldiers land grant near Toronto. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  His second born daughters name was Elizabeth; someone told me that 1st born daughter is usually name after mothers mother so I thought it was best to include that as well.

  • The William Glover in Urbalreagh in Griffiths Valuation in 1859 was on plot 1f which was a house and small garden with 1 rood of land (a quarter of an acre), such as a labourer/weaver would have rented. The land would have been for growing potatoes and other vegetables. The property is in the Valuation Revision records up to 1864 but by 1864 both William and the property have gone. So the cottage probably collapsed or was pulled down. Those records don’t tell me what happened to William. Obviously if he died pre 1864 there won’t be a death certificate.

I looked at William Glover deaths 1864 – 1875. There were 10 in Northern Ireland. Only 1 in Cookstown which is the civil registration district for that Urbalreagh. He died 9.1.1875 aged 48. The next closest died in Magherafelt district 15.1.1868 aged 90. You can view the original certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

I am not sure I can find any additional information on the Urbalreagh tenant. However the name isn’t that rare, and he may not necessarily be related to your Desertcreat ancestor.

  • Hi I believe I am the great great grandson of Andrew Steen of Urbelreagh.

    Good luck with your search.
