I recently found these Baptism records (on Ancestry.com) for the first 3 children of my Great Grandparents, Francis Brannigan and Susan Morris.  All 3 Baptisms were performed at Donaghmore, Tyrone, Ireland. In all 3, the Townland listed was Reclain. I would really like to find any information about Francis Brannigan birth (c.1819) and Susan Morris birth (c.1824) and their Marriage. I am assuming that these all would have been in or around Reclain, County Tyrone.

25 May 1839 - Elisabetham (Elizabeth) Branagan - Parents, Francisco Branagan and Susanna Morris - Sponsors, Jacoba Branagan and Maria Morgan.
24 Jun 1841 - Johannem (John) Branagan - Parents, Francis Branagan and Susanna Morris - Sponsor, Eugenius Branagan.
3 Nov 1843 - Jacobum (James) Branagan - Parents, Francisco Branagan and Susanna Morris - Sponsors, James and Isabella Morris.

An interesting point on the baptisms is that Ancestry.com shows them as occurring in Donaghmore, Donegal, Ireland. This at first wasn't consistent with their claim of being from County Tyrone, so I did a little more research. Turns out there are two Donaghmore parishes, one in Donegal and one in Tyrone. I went back to the baptism records and checked the townland listed. On all three, the townland was Reclain, which is in Tyrone. It appears that Ancestry.com shows the wrong Donaghmore parish for these.

  • My name is Mike Brannigan and am reserching my GGGrandfather Francis Brannigan. He married Susan Morris and had children named Elizabeth, John and James, all born around 1840. I know they are from County Tyrone. In researching the 1826 Tithe Applotment of the civil Parish of Donamore I found a Francis Brannigan. I also found a Felix, Michael, and Owen Brannigan, all very familar family names. Any information that can be shared would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Hello Mike.  We definitley should talk. My email address is brannigan@longandfoster.com.  My Great Grandfather was Francis Brannigan (married Susan Morris).  My Grandfather was the youngest son of Francis, Owen. My brother and I visited Ireland this past September and while we were there we went to County Tyrone. Francis Brannigan was from a townland called Reclain and Susan Morris was from townland Altaglushin. The two townlands are in Donaghmore parish and are very close, they border each other. We visited Donaghmore, St Patrick's Church and Cemetery and were also directed a few miles up the road to a town called Galbally, St John's Church and Cemetery.  There were many Brannigan and Morris buried in both places. Reclain Road comes directly out of Galbally and we drove into both Reclain and Altaglushin  I still haven't found the birth/baptism record for Francis, but while we were there we did find the birth record for Susan Morris and the marriage record for Francis and Susan.  This is some info I have.  Susan Morris was born 2 Mar 1819 (baptised 3 Mar 1819) in Altaglushin.  Here parents were John Morris and Brigid Carr. Susan had a brother John, born 1 Jun 1821.  It appears that her Mother Brigid may have died in that childbirth, because the next three children Patrick, born 21 Jun 1824 and twins (William and Felix) born 17 May 1826 mother's name was Elizabeth Carr.  It may be that after Brigid died, John Morris married her sister Elizabeth.  Francis and Susan were married 16 Jan 1838 in Donaghmore parish.  Their first four children were born in Reclain, Donaghmore Parish.  Elizabeth b. 25 May 1839, John b. 24 Jun 1841, James b.3 Nov 1843 and Brigid b. 19 Jan 1846.  Sometime after that, they all left Ireland and went to County Durham, England to wotk in the coal mines there.  The rest of the children were all born in Durham, England. Felix b. 1849, Francis b. 1851, Sarah b. 1854, Michael b. 1856 and my Grandfather Owen b. 6 Feb 1860.  I have the 1851 and 1861 English Census showing all this as well as Owen's Birth Record.  The oldest daughter Elizabeth married Owen Loughran in Durham in 1860.  I believe they immigrated to PA in 1865, followed by the Francis' oldest son John and his wife also in 1865.  Francis and Susan along with Brigid, Felix, Francis, Sarah, Michael and Owen immigrated through Caslte Garden on the ship Denmark on 29 Jul 1869 and then made there way to PA. The last son James immigrated later that year (Nov 1869), so the entire family ended up in Plains, PA.
