Griffiths Valuation of Ireland was conducted between 1848 and 1864. According to a few internet sources, it was completed in County Tyrone on July 13, 1860. However, I have seen other sources that refer to other dates, including 1851. Would anyone know if there are other dates for when the valuation was carried out in the Parishes of Donacavey and Drumglass? I was looking for an ancestor of mine, Patrick McHugh, who was living in Castletown, near Fintona in 1858, but there was no record of him there in Griffiths Valuation. If Griffiths Valuation in Donacavey was conducted before 1858, the absence of a reference to Patrick would fit well with family tradition that he lived in or near Dungannon in Drumglass Parish until the late 1850s.

The year the survey was published is shown under the ?details? column, when you look up an individual entry. I took two townlands at random. One in Donacavey and the other in Drumglass. Both have 1860 shown against them. (The information was probably gathered in the preceding 6 to 9 months).
Generally speaking the Griffiths clerks seem to have started in the south of Ireland in 1848 and worked, north finishing in Antrim in 1864. So the further north you are the later the dates.
Remember too that Griffiths didn't list everyone in Ireland. Only those who were heads of household and with property over ?5 rv. So people in tiny cabins, servants, multi-occupancy etc aren't listed.

However, it is the correct date and the absence of Patrick in the 1860 valuation of Donacavey may well be due to him living in the type of dwelling you mention. By 1870, he appears in the valuation revision records as an occupier of a lot in Castletown, so it may have taken him a while to acquire the means to rent or buy a small plot of land.

I've been trying to identify the parents of my great-great-grandmother. My GG-Grandmother had a brother, Hugh Gibney/Gibboney, who married Catherine Campbell in Gortin (CofI). According to the marriage record his father was given as "Alexander." I found another record for a younger Alexander Gibney who went to Australia. His parents were given as Alexander Gibney and Jane Campbell. The only Alexander Gibney/Gibboney I've located is in Donacavey. There is a record of a marriage for a Sarah Gibney to James Hamilton with her father given as Alexander Gibney of Donacavey, in 1864. . My gg-grandmother was Eliza born about 1809. Sher married William Rutledge about 1839/40. Trying to find any information to see if this Alexander Gibney might be the one I'm looking for! Thanks.
