Hello. I am looking for any relatives of Domonic Loughran born @1857. He married Agnes Hart. They emigrated to Port Glasgow, Scotland and had 4 sons there. ( the youngest was my grandfather Joseph. ) . When Agnes died Domonic came to America with his 4 sons in 1908 . My great uncle Domonic returned to Dungannon later.. I have traveled to Ireland 5 times in the last few years. I would love to know about my great grandparents home parish..thank you and God Bless!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located the 1876 civil marriage record transcription which is below. It shows the names of the fathers of the bride and groom. I also located the transcription of Domnick's baptismal record but did not find the record for Agnes.

  • The 1856 baptism gives the family townland as Glenadush. Griffiths Valuation for 1860 lists Henry Loughran in that townland. He had plot 26 which was a house and 5 acres. Today that’s on the Old Ballygawley Rd, by the north shore of Eskragh Lough.

The revaluation records show he left that property some time between 1860 and 1863.

  • Greetings, My great-great-grandmother's maiden name was Laughran. I know a different spelling by one letter, but spelling can be tricky. Her name was Mary Laughran from Dungannon and she married James Conlin. I have a copy of their marriage certificate written in Latin: Jacobus Conlin et Mariom Laughran 15 March 1838 in Killeshill, County Tyrone. The two witnesses were Jacobus Laughran and Archibaldo McMinn. Mary (nee Laughran) Conlin immigrated to Brooklyn, NY with her two daughters, Anne and Catherine, in 1848. Family myth has James Conlin being buried at sea on the trip over -- but I have no solid proof. If any of these details, including the spelling variation, are of use or lead to a connection, please let me know. I am still searching for information about the fate of James Conlin; his parents' names and Mary Laughran Conlin's parents' names. Any bit of information would be appreciated. By the way, I love Ireland Reaching Out! All best, Christine Dinsmore

  • My partner is Patrick Benedict Loughran born 21.3.58 in Dungannon. He has two older twin brothers Daniel and Jim, two years older. They lost their Dad in 64. They moved to Glasgow around 1970.
They cannot find any family in Ireland. Their mother was Florence Loughran nee McCormick.
    Thanks

  • You haven’t mentioned your partner’s father’s name which makes searching for his death tricky. However deaths in Northern Ireland in 1964 are on-line (they go up to 1970) and you can look it up on the GRONI site using the “search registrations” option:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

I assume that Florence McCormick married Mr Loughran around 1955 in Northern Ireland. If so, that marriage certificate isn’t available on-line. It is open to the public just not on-line. You need to contact GRONI and get them to search for it for you. The marriage certificate should give you both their fathers’ names and occupations and from that you can search back to their births, and sideways to their siblings births. Births within the past 100 years are not on-line and again you would need to ask GRONI to search for them. (Or you can make an appointment with GRONI in Belfast and do it yourself, or get a researcher to do it for you).

Contact details for ringing or e-mailing GRONI:

    https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/contacts/contacts-az/general-register-office-northern-ireland

    Phone: 0300 200 7890

With the fathers names and occupation you may also be able to search for a will on the PRONI wills site.  I did search for Loughran wills in the Dungannon area in 1964 but the only one was a farmer married to Winifred, so presumably not your family:

Loughran, Patrick of Camaghy House Cappagh Dungannon county Tyrone farmer died 20 June 1964 at South Tyrone Hospital Dungannon Administration Londonderry 18 May to Winifred Loughran the widow. Effects £2117.

I didn’t see a Florence Loughran death up to 1970 so presumably she died after that. But again you can ask GRONI to search for it (there may be search fees). With a date and place of death you could then get a researcher to look for a will in PRONI. (Probate abstracts after 1966 are not on-line). Florence’s death certificate may also give you a lead to any next of kin.

You probably need to engage a researcher in Belfast to do some of this for you.

  • Elwyn
Thank you very much for all your info. That was very helpful.
Patricks father was James Patrick Loughran born 1917 but no idea what date. His wife Florence died in Glasgow in 1991.
Patrick and I are heading over to Dungannon on Friday for a few days, we were thinking of going round the cemeteries.

  • I searched the 1917 births for all Ireland but don’t see one for James Patrick Loughran. Good luck with your search anyway.
