I am researching my GGGGgrandfather Barnard Collins of Omagh, County Tyrone. I know he was born on 12 Nov 1827 in Omagh, Tyrone (from his application for Naturalization) He arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on 13 Jul 1842 (from ship's passenger list) with what appear to be several siblings and his mother named Ann. They proceeded to Nantucket, Massachusetts where I have been to document his wedding, the birthdates of his children and his death in 13 Sep 1900. I am very interested in finding out where he came from and would be willing to trade information I have on his family here in the U.S.

Birth registration didn?t start in Ireland till 1864. For births prior to that you normally rely on church records. However in this case, assuming the Collins family were RC and came from Omagh, then the local baptism records don?t start till 1846. (Parish of Drumragh). So you won?t find any details of the family there.
Your enquiry is for a period when no relevant records appear to exist, which will make your search very tricky.

Hi David
There are 8 baptism records of Collins 1827 + - 1 year in Tyrone on www.rootsireland.ie/ but no Bernards!
None is from Omagh Civil parish or Omagh R C either
They are: 1827: David, John & Mary Ann; 1828: Charles Elizabeth Henry John & Sara
There are 2 Bernard Collins born 1827 on rootsireland but they are from Down
The Tithe Applotments 1823-37 (free online) have 2 Collins in Tyrone - both Phillip

Hi,
If you do Google search "tyrone gravestones" you'll discover the good work of many fold who maintain several free sites of Gravestones - some pre-dating the 1864 barrier. Perhaps you will find a Headstone " XXXX Collins beloved husband of Ann, and father of x, y & z..."
Good luck
