My Great Great Grandmother is from Ireland. She was born in 1830 and came to America with her family in about 1847.
She lived in iowa and died in 1907. According to a newspaper obituary she was born in "Pymatic County Ireland"
I never heard of this county or Parish or Town.
Has anyone heard of this place or similar name?
Her name was Anna McGuire

Hi Jay
I'm afraid there are no 1830 birth records of Anna McGuire on the sites I searched - rootsireland & irish genealogy. However there are 8 Ann McGuire records on roots Dublin Meath Kilkenny Down Offaly Mayo & 2 in Westmeath

Thanks
The name "Pymatic" is not or sounds like a town or Parrish?

Thanks for your help.
I went through names for towns in Ireland starting with the letter P.
I do not know who wrote the Obit for my GG Grandmother, or who they talked to to get the information.
I am wondering if perhaps someone said "Portmarnock" and thought they said Pymatic.
It is the only town I can find that starts with the letter P has an M and ends with a hard C, K.
This would put her from Dublin.
I'm trying to backtrack from Adair Iowa to New York to Ireland with very little information and unsound information.
Maybe impossible.

Hi Jay,
I went through the 8 Ann McGuire baptism records in the 7 parishes for any Pymatic names but no luck.
Do you have it that her birth year is definitely 1830 & not 1829 as there are lots of other records for Ann McGuire for those years also.

I'm not sure of anything.
I'm going off of a newspaper Obit that says she was from Pymatic Ireland. She also said they lived in Adair all their lives whis is false because most of their children were born in Muscatine Iowa which is across the state.
So she could have been born in 1830 or 5 years either side.

According to the 1900 Federal Census they lived in Adair Iowa. She listed her DOB as May 1829. Arriving in New York. in 1847. Supposedly with her family.
Michael O'Brien also known as E.M. O'Brien listed his DOB as May 1827 and arriving in New York in 1849.

Sorry Jay - tried the 1829 Ann McGuire records but no parish like Pymatic.
Can you post / attach the obit with Pymatic?

Here is the Obit

Thanks Jay
It reads as a county rather than a province but that doesn't help either!
The obit mentioned that she lived with her parents for 3 years in the states. Are they on a census anywhere?

She is in the 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 census ans Ann or Anna O'Brien. She was married in 1856.
There are numerous Ann or Anna McGuires in New York in the 1850 Census. I am unable to confirm which one if any is her.
