The 1901 census in Aghascrebagh/Crockanboy lists my grandfather Jack Connery, his 2 sisters Mary and Rosy. Also with them is their Aunt Sarah Morris who brought them from the US to visit their grandparents. Also in the house was Rose Morris the head of the house, her son John Morris (her husband ws also John but probably deceased at that time)and daughter Alice Morris. I know that Alice eventually came to the US and Sarah Morris returned with the children in June of 1901. I'd like to find out if there were more children, and if John, who is my grand uncle, married and if I have any relatives in the area. My grandfather Jack's mother was also Rose and she married Michael Connery but I don't know if that was in Ireland or the US. Michael's mother was Mary Dugan and father was John Connery.
THanks so very much.

This looks to be John Morris in the 1911 census:

You?ll see that his mother had died and he had married. He appears to have married Rose Rodgers in Jan ? Mar 1906 (marriage registered in Omagh).
There were 8 Morris households in Aghascrebagh in 1911. There are all likely to be related to each other.

The Griffiths revaluation records show John on plot 18 in Aghascrebagh, in 1929. That was a farmhouse, outbuildings, and 20 acres 3 roods of land. Easy enough to locate today, should you ever wish to do so, provided you have a Griffiths map. It runs across the modern Aughascribbagh Road BT70, which is about 15 miles west of Cookstown.
There?s a probate file in PRONI for a John Morris who died in 1921 but he was a different John, being married to Bridget.

Aghascrebagh is in the RC parish of Bodoney Lower whose records start in 1865. You may be able to pick up other members of the family from that. The records for that particular parish are not on-line anywhere. For records up to 1880, there are copies in PRONI, Belfast and the National Library in Dublin. For records after 1880, you would need to contact the parish priest.
I can?t see any Morris households in Aughascrebagh Rd in the current phone book but a lot of people are ex-directory these days so that?s not conclusive. Your best bets would be to call at the farm or any house in the area, and enquire.
