Having located an entry for a Patrick McGuire in Alderwood, Aghalurcher, Co. Tyrone in Griffiths Valuation of Ireland, how do I find if he had a son named John who emigrated to S.Australia c.1855
Where are further records relating to the Patrick McGuire entry?
Thanks in advance for all help

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, there may not be any other records relating to the entry you found in Griffith?s Valuation. This was a property valuation survey that was carried out between 1848 and 1864. The only information it offers is in relation to the property in question and the name of the occupier.
In order to see if Patrick had a son called John, you may have to look into Church records. This will be easier if you have an approximate date of birth for John. If you can find either his birth or baptismal record it will have his parents? names listed.
Most Catholic records are held at a local level so it may be an idea to write to the parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Aghalurcher follow this link:
For information on Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
There are also some online sites that have made records available online:
and www.rootsireland.ie (please note that you have to pay to look at records on this site)
You could also try contacting the Irish World Heritage Centre for assistance-a fee may apply.

I hope that this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
