Looking for information on Robert McKelvey family (abt.1776-1818) who married Anne J.(Nancy) Boyd (1773-1857) on 11Mar 1790.  Family lore states that Robert was a Presbyterian Minister who died of Pneumonia.  The family lived in or near Omagh.  Their children: Thomas B. 1793, James 1795, Elizabeth 1797, Robert 1801, Margaret ?, William 1807, Samuel 1810, David and George 1812, Joseph 1816 and Wier 1818.  Most of the children immigrated to Belmont County, OH USA, between mid 1820's through 1840.  The mother, Anne, immigrated with the eldest son by 1840.  I don't know anything about Robert or Anne's parents...nor do I know what parish they lived in.  I would love any help.  I have much info on the family once they came to Belmont Co., OH.  There has also been info stating that they adopted two orphaned boys, James and a Dennis McKillip.   Samuel was my 3g-grandfather.  Some of the McKelvey family have married into other Tyrone Co. families ( McFarland, Fulton, Boyd...)  many after immgration.

Thanks,

Jean

  • I have done some research on a William Kyle of Brackey Townland and Lisline Townland near Sixmilecross. William's sister was married to Robert Mc Kelvey Sr. sometime in the years leading upto

22 Feb. 1753 when William Kyle deid, in his will he granted a tenth of his lands an the mill at Brackey to his sister's son Robert Mc Kelvey Jr. for life. William Kyle granted his millstone quarry in the estate of Lisline to Mr. Johnson. Robert Mc Kelvey Sr. is also noted in the same will. David Kyle was married to Robert Mc Kelvey Sr.'s sister Elizabeth.

I hope this will help, as I have no dates

  • Robert,

Wow!!!!!!!!  I'd only heard McKelvey family being near Omagh, so this info helps.  Your Sixmilecross reference...would make since, as they were friends with my Fulton family that did live in Sixmilecross area.   I had figured they met in Belmont Co., OH USA...going to same church.   I had also seen a reference to Giboney family of Brackey's Mill, who were related to the Fultons.  This sure is a big lead...I do thank you very much.

  • Hi Jean

William Klye of Brackey's daughter Margaret married Thomas Giboney, again I have no dates, but it looks like the families were related, at least by marriage. So it is likely Barckey Townland you are looking for. The Kyle family arrived at Barckey sometime around 1645, and setup the mill at Barckey.

Some went off to the USA.

  • In my research I have William McKelvey (son of Robert McKelvey) born 1 October 1843 who married Jane Kyle (daughter of James Kyle)on 29 November 1870.
Their daughter Annie born 20 October 1884 married William John McFarland on 20 August 1917. Does any of this tie in with your research?
William was baptised in Sixmilecross, County Tyrone.

  • I have been research the irish part between 1645-1800 looking for family crest and just knowledge about my heritage.

I have found and agree with what you guys have found but im getting confused with so many roberts and williams.

I have it going from Robert Mckelvey and Nancy Boyd being married. His father as Robert Mckelvey (possibly married to Margaret Kyle judging by the will you guys refernced and some other marriage documents i found) It looks like Margaret, William and David Kyle where siblings and they married Robert, Margaret Mckelvey, and Elizabeth respectively.

I know that all the Kyle's were born to John William Kyle born 1665 and from Scotland via the marriage docs I found.

So that would make James' , Elizabeth, Margaret Mckelvey, and Robert Siblings. So the kyles had several kids who all married the Mckelvey Siblings.

It gets confusing on who is James and thems parents are. I see some sources saying that Robert Mckelvey and Rebecca Scott are the parents but according to the family tree we have been working on at ancestry.com it looks like Robert and Rebecca would be their grandparents.

If so who is James, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Roberts dad. Secondly who is Robert Mckelvey that was married to Rebeccas father? I found some documentation that might hint to a Duncan Mckelvey born 1680 but i cant find much on him.

  • Paul...this family is very confusing!   Some show Robert McKelvey, who married Anne Nancy Boyd, that his father was Robert McKelvey who went to North Carolina...I can't prove that...and some have dates that just don't fit.   From which line do you hail?  My g-aunt always said that the McKelveys were originally from Scotland.   I did the DNA testing a couple years ago when they were just trialing it, Interestingly, I haven't had anyone connect with me on that line except there are a ton of people that don't have any of their family lines posted or they have their line locked.  Or My father and I may not have gotten the McKelvey DNA...oh well.   You can e-mail me at  genstarbear@yahoo.com

You know the Duncan you mentioned, may well be the key!   Would be nice to walk a few Churchyard cemeteries in County Tyrone.
